With a great brand and website already established, Seed To Plate came to us for the next phase: design and create a gardener's handbook for their users that was intuitive, accessible and thoroughly useful for first time gardeners to experienced Green Fingers! Naturally, it had to look great too.

Objectives

With a great website already created that let users build, plan and customise their own veg plot, our task was to extend this: create a book that was saleable to users, with that same bespoke nature. Our book had to be:

Graphically rich: with original artwork drawn to purpose throughout
Tough enough for the environment: we required a physical format and materials suitable for garden life
Simple and accessible: all information had to be consistently and clearly organised
Bespoke in nature: the book had to include information custom to that user: a high quality representation of their designed veg plot

The Canvas

Step one was to decide upon the size and format of the book. After various physical examples were examined, we decided upon a tough ring bound format, with sturdy paper and a matte finish to reflect the tone of Seed To Plate.

Layout & Artwork

Sound in Theory worked closely with Peter, advising on the best format the information could take, and how it might be represented on the page. We created a standard layout so users may quickly find key information for each vegetable.

Technical Solution

Our task here was to convert veg plots that users saved onto the website into a large, high-resolution graphic that may be printed out at a high quality.

The Result

After an involved development process, the end result is a professional and informative book, ready for release into gardens across Britain. Customer response has been excellent: the book, accompanied with a large personalised veg plot and sowing calendar has proved to be a great combination for budding gardeners.

"The Seed to Plate brand proposition is all about inspiring novice gardeners to grow their own veg. They're not typical gardeners though, they're relatively young, design savvy, into their food, and very short of time. I needed a practical veg growing manual that explained the veg growing process in simple terms and did this with clarity, style and charm. The team delivered on all fronts and the book has proved hugely popular with our customers."
